Artist Bio

Matt James is a band and portraiture photographer from Madison, Wisconsin. He works primarily with models and musicians and has been doing photography for 6 years. Matt has always had a deep emotional connection with band photography. He began his career by shooting his friend’s punk band in downtown Madison, and has since shot a wide variety of musicians and groups. His artistic approach involves using the unique, low light situations of live performances and taking advantage of dramatic silhouettes. He focuses on capturing the musician’s individual style and personality.

Another passion of Matt’s is portraiture photography. He loves connecting with new people, hearing the story of where they came from and how they got started in modeling. His artistic style is to find the right facial expression to match that person’s personality, whether happy, sad, or in-between. It’s about how they feel and want others to see them.
